20 Things From 2020

There’s not much to say about this year that hasn’t already been said and felt by us all. It was an off year — for me, setup to be monumental with our marriage and celebrating that of other close friends. This was obliterated of course, yet this year was still positive for us in so many ways. To put it simply, we’re thankful. We are fortunate to not have been inflicted with illness or loss through all of this. Even though inconvenienced with quarantine, trying demands from work, and restrictions on wedding celebrations, we still were able to do what we set out to do this year. It’s amazing what can be done when you stay positive, keep moving, and let your resilience drive you forward.

That said, 20 great things still came out of this year. 20 things that we’ll look back on and smile, especially №1 and №20. What lists like these always help me realize, is it’s not just the big things that matter, it’s the little things, too. I will hold to the belief that even in dark years like this has been for many, there are bright spots we can choose to celebrate.

Here are my bright spots:

  1. Married the kindest man.
  2. Sold a work of art off the gallery wall.
  3. Celebrated the most laid back, in-the-middle-of-nowhere Covid bachelorette party ever.
  4. Skied my 4th lap on the Birkie trail.
  5. Found two incredible mentors.
  6. Sipped many mini glasses of bourbon on the Bourbon Trail.
  7. Heard a monster camping in the woods at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.
  8. Mini-Golfed in Gatlinburg.
  9. Rode a jetski for the first time.
  10. Spent hours passing time on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
  11. Pitched to a global industry-leading team.
  12. Got commissioned to paint someone’s dead cat.
  13. Found the most incredible mountain Air BNB on a whim.
  14. Cleared a barn for the most epic neon wedding bash.
  15. Saw a bear in the Smoky Mountains.
  16. Enjoyed a festive stay at Hotel Dighe.
  17. Worked with a Career Coach to solidify my future dreams.
  18. Had fall-off-the-bone BBQ ribs in Louisville.
  19. Smashed my “ceiling” in my career.
  20. Landed a dream job.
